It is hard to believe that in just over 5 weeks we will be entering into a new year. We can probably all agree that this last year has flown by and the new year we will be here before we know it.
At BB&J Commercial, we find it beneficial to enter the new year fresh with new ideas. Whenever possible, we believe in wrapping up all the loose ends and entering the new year with a fresh start.
When we think of the year coming to an end, we ideally want to do our best to complete all those last minute or lagging tasks before the end of December. There is nothing like putting a little pressure on yourself to complete those last few tasks, but just imagine how great it will feel to complete the year with no looming deadlines in the back of your mind.
Today, we wanted to provide some tips on how to you can wrap up your work for the end of the year.
Make a List
Write down a list of all the things you need to complete by the end of the year. Include projects you are currently working on, ones that need to be completed and others that may need to be carried into the new year. This will give you with a clear idea of what needs to be prioritised and completed by the end of the year.
You could even break down your lists into individual tasks that need to be completed in order to achieve the overall goal – you could even set deadlines for each task to ensure you stay on track for the remainder of the year.
Review and Purge Old Documents
Many businesses fiscal year coincides with the calendar year. Therefore, make sure you have submitted all invoices for payment and any expense reports, if applicable. Your company will most likely be closing the books and it is important that all expenses are accounted for in the end of year totals.
If this is something that you know will need to sort within your organisation, then you will be busy organising, filing and purging documents to close out 2021. If not, it is still a good idea to sort through any important documents you have. Most likely, you will have lots of documents that you keep track of on an annual basis. Now would be the time to organise and file them away until they are needed again.
Review and Reflect
Take the time to review and reflect on your accomplishments after all, it has been a difficult year for everyone in one way or another. For many, we get so caught up on the day to day tasks that we have accomplished. We do not take the time to actually see what it is that we have accomplished individually or as a team.
Perhaps you were responsible for making positive changes or did something that had a positive impact on the employees and organisation. Reflect, but more importantly give yourself credit and be proud of your accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
Clean Out and Organise Your Emails
Now will be the perfect time to go through all your old emails and delete the ones that you thought you needed but never used. Organise those great articles you were going to read and never did, then delete the ones that are no longer relevant.
Create folders for all of the important emails you want to keep. This will help you to remain organised and will also help keep your inbox clean. Once you have created folders for all your emails, when emails come in you can read it, file it or delete it. As long as you follow the read it, file it or delete it system, your inbox will be clutter free and not overwhelming with 100 emails to read.
Set Achievable Goals for 2022
Now that 2021 is coming to a close, it is now time to set new, achievable goals for 2022. Make sure that the goals you set are realistic. Choose goals that will help your growth, improve your skills, enhance your career and make you happy.
What suggestions would you make? What goals will you set for 2022?
We hope these tips help and end your year with a bang!
