Finishing off 2019 with another great deal BB&J Commercial are delighted to conclude the letting of 42 King Street, Belper to Sankara Imports.
Sankara Imports are a family orientated business originally established in Seattle, USA over 7 years ago. They specialise in the sale of ethical & fair-trade gifts and work directly with artisans in India, Nepal, and Turkey with the aim to promote social good through handicrafts.
Katrina Cohn of Sankara Imports comments “All the treasures, art, and handicrafts in the shop will be ethically made and are hand selected or made to order from those who make the pieces rather than through a middleman. By working with the artists directly, not only are we able to find the best handicrafts, but also ensure safe working conditions, fair payment for the work, and the best prices in the shop.”
The addition of another retailer to the town is a welcome positive indicator as to the health of the high street and in the face of uncertain economic times Belper is certainly bucking the trend.
BB&J senior commercial surveyor Chris Keogh commented: “We would put the strength of Belper’s high street down to the fact that there is a varied mixed of businesses ranging from national chains to local and independent shops. Whilst having major national retailers in the town, Belper is not reliant on an anchor business to attract trade and there is not a saturation or oversupply of any particular business which is often the case in similar market towns. It has been a pleasure to put together a deal that helps bolster the traditional British high street.”
