UK Office Occupancy Hits 50%

UK office occupancy hits 50% of pre-pandemic levels for the first time since March 2020.

This promising milestone was reached on Tuesday 18 May 2021, data from smart buildings software platform Metrikus has shown.

Occupancy in offices had fallen to a weekly median of 16% in the latter week of January 2021. However, since the start of February, the data has identified a steady increase in workers attending the office.

The chief of operations at Metrikus said that “the occupancy index reaching 50% of pre-pandemic levels is a significant milestone for city centres around the UK. The return of workers to their offices has been gradual, but remarkably consistent since the beginning of February, with steady growth of between 1.7 and 1.5 index points per week.”

Mark Richardson, Partner at BB&J Commercial commented “after successfully moving office during the pandemic, it is extremely pleasing to see other businesses return to the office too. We have noticed these changes with the number of enquiries about office spaces increasing.”
