Amey Hellen, who recently joined BB&J Commercial and Boxall Brown & Jones has recently been presented with four awards at the University of Derby for her efforts outside of her studies.
Amey recently joined the team as a Digital Communications and Marketing Coordinator, after completing her undergraduate degree in Business Management. While studying her degree, she completed several work placements, opened a freelance business and was secretary for the Business Society. The awards received were:
Academic Society of the Year
This was awarded by the Union of Students at the Education Awards 2021, alongside her committee within the Business Society. This award was given based on the society’s efforts to deliver outstanding events and opportunities for their members, along with raising money and awareness for several charities.
Most Charitable Society of the Year
This was awarded by the Union of Students at the Activity Awards 2021, alongside her committee. This award was given based on the total amount of money raised to various charities and the creativity behind the charity events organised.
Amey, alongside her committee organised a Movember event where members were encouraged to run or walk to raise money for men’s mental health. They also organised an event called ‘Move for Mind’, where members were encouraged to get involved with any form of physical activity, regardless of your capabilities to raise money for Mind. This event was a competition against other societies to see who could move and raise the most money.
Society of the Year
Similar to the Academic Society of the Year Award, this award was given based on the society’s efforts to deliver outstanding events and opportunities for their members, along with raising money and awareness for various charities. This award was open to academic and sporting societies, making this award even more special!
Student Employability Award
Last but no means least, Amey was awarded Student Employability Award 2021 by the Careers and Employment Service at the University of Derby. This award recognises students who have worked hard to develop their employability skills, either through engagement with their curriculum or specific opportunities, with the goal to make themself more employable.
Other Nominations and Awards
Despite winning many awards, Amey noted that the Business Society had been nominated for another award – Society Committee of the Year. In addition, she added that the college that she studied under, Business, Law and Social Sciences, won college of the year. What a successful year!
Amey commented “I was completely shocked when I found out that I had been nominated and won all these awards. After working extremely hard and dealing with some hardships throughout my studies, it feels very rewarding to have been recognised for all these achievements. It was not all down to me, I am extremely lucky to have had a wonderful committee to work alongside this year, as well as amazing employers who gave me invaluable experiences to get me in my dream job here at BB&J!”
Mark Richardson, Partner at BB&J Commercial added “I am so pleased for Amey. I know she has worked incredibly hard to attain her degree, and the fact that she has won all of these awards reinforces just how much work she has put in. She is making a great contribution here and it’s fantastic that someone in our BB&J team is getting such personal recognition for all their efforts.”
